Well it makes for good padding and it just so happens that many important figures were impacted by it, so when a side character from Whitebeard's crew shows up after not being seen since a brief spot near the start of this arc and otherwise only appeared in flashbacks suddenly makes a badass reappearance, why not briefly go back to the relevant moment that ties into why the guy who isn't one of Luffy's people is showing up suddenly to aid him.

I can't wait for Kiku an Izou to reunite, that'll be such a good scene. Izou hasn't been back to Wano in over 20 years
